Fortune magazine recently released the 2017 Fortune 500, a list of the largest corporations headquartered in the U.S. based on 2016 revenues. This year, the Chicago metro area is home to 34 Fortune 500 headquarters, including eleven in the City of Chicago. Rankings for seven of the eleven companies headquartered in the City of Chicago held steady or improved over last year. TreeHouse Foods (headquartered in Oak Brook, IL) is the only newcomer to the top 500 list, as it jumped 259 spots to be ranked 427th on the list.

The three companies that made the biggest jump in rankings compared to last year are headquartered in the City of Chicago:

  • Kraft Heinz (153rd last year)
  • LKQ Corporation (369th last year)
  • Jones Lang LaSalle (436th last year).

Three Chicago-area companies dropped off the list this year:

  • Baxalta, Bannockburn, IL (acquired by Shire in June 2016)
  • NiSource, Merrillville, IN
  • Telephone & Data Systems, Chicago, IL
