Manager of Economic Development

World Business Chicago is a public-private, non-profit partnership that drives inclusive economic growth and job creation, supports business and promotes Chicago as a leading global city.

 

Position Summary

The Manager of Economic Development is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Manufacturing. The responsibility of the Manager of Business Development will be to manage clients through various stages of project development ranging from prospect identification and subsequent outreach to client management and deal closure.

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify prospective companies and set up meetings with business executives – with a focus in the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TD&L) sector.
  • Identify and secure prospects’ interest in the Chicago area via technology, face-to-face visits and multi-media presentations.
  • Establish and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support the department by leading on business development projects related to other investment opportunities not identified.
  • Promote Chicagoland as the ideal location investment and expansions (for instance by initiating and speaking at business seminars, participating in networking events, )
  • Develop relocation proposals and requests for information, as well as arranging required site visits.
  • Work with fellow staff to develop, implement, and improve business development marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Complete regularly required status reports and maintain project tracking databases.
  • Develop and communicate a strong working knowledge of the TD&L ecosystem, sites and buildings, incentives, workforce, and other locational advantages available to support prospective businesses.
  • Support and organize marketing trips that build the awareness and brand as a leading global city for business investment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in economic development

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in preferred in business, urban planning, public policy, or related field.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation of at least 3 days spent in office/in field per week.
  • Willingness to work occasional workday evenings as project and strategic opportunities arise.

 

Salary

  • Range of $55,000 – $65,000 annually
