Director, Public Sector Investment Strategy

World Business Chicago (WBC) is a public-private, non-profit partnership that drives inclusive economic growth and job creation, supports existing and expanding businesses, and promotes Chicago as a leading global city.

The Public Sector Investment Strategy (PSIS) team supports the organization with grant administration and connects local and regional partners with public funding opportunities in support of a regional approach to economic development.

 

Position Summary

The Director of Public Sector Investment Strategy’s work is primarily focused on the federal funding portion of the team’s portfolio. The Director helps contribute to and execute team strategy, supports regional investment priorities, and expands relationships with key partners. This staff member will work as an integrated member of the PSIS team.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Public Sector Investment Strategy reports to the Vice President, Public Sector Investment Strategy. Primary responsibilities include, though are not limited to:

  • Maintains a portfolio of key strategic federal funding opportunities; serving as the organization expert for this portfolio
  • Provides team strategy recommendations, sets goals, and supports execution of these goals
  • Produces memos, primers, presentations, and other communication materials
  • Serves as a key liaison within World Business Chicago, ensuring alignment with other teams and workstreams
  • Maintains and expands relationships with external partners
  • Represents WBC and the PSIS team at events and conferences
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus; degrees in public policy, business, political science, urban planning, or public administration preferred.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience and ability to work across a variety of skill areas, including project and stakeholder management; previous experience in local, state, or federal government a plus
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with ability to deliver against deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate to all levels of management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills with expertise in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity or previous experience with grants management and/or grant writing preferred

 

Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 annually
