Plates On Purpose
Plates On Purpose, a 501(c)3 nonprofit affiliate of The Cafe at 3008 E 92nd street in South Chicago, aims to sustain culturally significant foodways that strengthen communities. Free, affordable, and fun cooking classes, tastings to refamiliarize people with delicious vegetable and herb varieties, and hands-on urban gardening demonstrations will foster an important intergenerational conversation that supports the realignment of the community with its local food system. The Cafe at 3008 E 92nd street will serve as a model for a sustainable community based business that creates space and opportunities for these impactful connections while offering a variety of coffee, teas, and fresh and vibrant cafe items that taste good and make people feel good. The Cafe and Plates On Purpose work to collectively support the community as we all relearn indigenous based practices on how to eat, cook, move, and think more sustainably and culturally through our food choices for better health and prosperity for all.
